About Time

Yes, it's been too long since my last update. I'd planned to post about two or three times a week, but I haven't been able to primarily due to having restricted access to the computer. I'm sure I could figure out a way to post through my Wii, but it'd probably end up being more cumbersome than useful. Though being able to IM through the Wii is certainly handy (http://www.meebo.com if you're interested in trying it for yourself).

Quite a few things have happened since my last post. For one, Chen and I finished watching Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. To my surprise, I ended up really enjoying it, despite my [somewhat unfounded] hatred of mecha anime. I think once I started to equate Chen's obsession with giant robots to the way I am with guns, I began to understand his thought process much better. However, since I was left with such a pleasant taste by this show, I refuse to watch any additional mecha shows so to not upset its perfect batting average.

Also, Chen is in China at the moment. If anyone would like to fill his void by playing Street Fighter III and/or Capcom vs SNK 2 with me (since I literally have no other friends who play fighting games aside from Brawl), please don't hesitate to do so.

Second, The Goddamn Dark Knight. It's been a week since it's been out and I still can't get over how awesome it was. If you haven't seen it yet, go see it. And if you have, see it again. I went to the midnight show with the idiots and that certainly was fun, mainly since I once again donned my (admittedly) awful Batman costume. Which reminds me, I've made very little (if any) progress in my story, but I hope to change that in the next few weeks. But as for the movie, I could not find anything worth complaining about.

Honestly, this is one of those rare instances where a medium exceeds its massive amounts of hype. In fact, the movie is so perfect that I would prefer that there not be another sequel made. Of course, there most certainly will be due to the money it'll rake in and we'll end up with more movie messes along the lines of X3 and Spiderman 3.

Third, Musa is adorable. Expect a few pictures in the future. And his mother is demanding my presence, so I should about wrap this up.

Oh, and I'm thinking of having either a random factoid or a song to accompany each post from now on. This time I'll have both.

Random factoid: In Urdu, the words for "sandals," "slap" and "Asians" are all based on the root word which translates to "flat." Sandals have flat soles, slapping causes one's face to be flattened, and Asians have comparatively flat faces. Interesting, no?

Blasphemy

I love my friends because of all the crazy things we end up doing.

For the record, I hate everything and anything Final Fantasy VII.

Also, before the obvious insinuations come into play regarding the above photograph, I have nothing against Christianity (or any other faith for that matter); it's just that I've always seen the cross as a sword ever since I was a wee lad. I remember one time when I wanted to buy a necklace with a cross on it at the local Venture and my sister yelled at me. For the longest time, I thought she simply had a distaste in medieval weaponry. Anyways, I saw this sitting in Steve's lawn and I just had to take the opportunity.

Watch as this picture comes to haunt me in the future regardless. Especially because I didn't iron that shirt.

After the sacrelige and a few rounds of playing Badminton while dodging dog doo, we watched Batman Begins for the fifteenth time. I ended up quoting about half of it in my Batman voice. I'm thankful for having friends that tolerate such actions...or at least act like they do. Then again, they did seem to be rather entertained by my comments regarding pearl necklaces.

Writer's Block? Maybe.

Wow, so writing that Batman story has been harder than I had originally planned. I never did realize all of the crazy things that happened...and in such a short timespan, too! I first wore the costume Stigma Weekend, which is Augustana's version of celebrating St. Patrick's Day. That was in March! Anyways, I'm going to be condensing details, events and possibly characters for the sake of making it more interesting to readers. In any case, it's nice to have the ability to write whenever with that old laptop Tahir gave me. Maybe the fact that it doesn't have internet is a good thing...

I know it's a bit early to be thinking about this, but I'm at a loss for what my next story should be. Anyone want to suggest anything?

Also, how sad is it that I'm more excited for Rabiya and Musa coming to visit and The Dark Knight coming out than I was for my own birthday?

Welcome!

To whomever is unfortunate enough to come here, my name is Adil Mohyuddin, and I've decided to start a blog to commemorate my 20th birthday. I should've done this a long time ago, but hey, better late than never, no? Naturally, every blog has to have some type of gimmick so as to stick out from the rest of the hundreds of thousands of people out there, and while I won't be able to post suggestive pictures of myself or keep up with the latest in some type of news, people say I do have a lot of interesting stories to tell. So yes, expect lots of random stories about my life.

Here's a snippet from something I started working on not too long ago. It's still in the works, but at least it'll give you an idea of my writing style.

The Goddamn Batman
By Adil Mohyuddin

Looking back, my favorite part was the cape. The way it flowed behind me, especially when I ran or jumped off of a ledge—that swoosh noise, normally reserved for a basketball game, as the mass of black fabric fluttered in a current of wind. Of course, I admired the rest of the costume, but the cape is what looked at me in the eyes each time when I decided to go on one of my masquerades.

Allow me to explain. I attended Augustana College my freshman year, which, in hindsight, wasn’t the best choice for me. People there didn’t take too kindly to my quirks and I still didn’t grasp the fact that more than half of the kids there were more interested in consuming large amounts of alcoholic beverages (or various forms of drugs) than getting a formal education. I’ll admit I was pretty naïve back then; it took me about three months to realize that “partying” didn’t involve much cake, ice cream or goodie bags…unless those were dimebags. Augustana and I got along about as well as a fly and a rolled up newspaper. I was truly alone on that campus at Rock Island, a lone chocolate chip in a gallon of vanilla ice cream.

Wednesdays were the worst…Wasted Wednesdays, rather. There was something about drinking something to the point where the dining hall pizza would end up in the middle of my dorm hallway in a chunky mess that really turned me off. But what was I to do for fun? Sure, playing video games was one way to pass the time, but since my slate had been wiped clean with high school graduation, I was trying my damndest not to give the image that I was a nerd. So instead, I decided to dress up like Batman.

In retrospect, it truly was the perfect solution to my loneliness. Batman was a lone wolf who had very few friends that knew him. While I wanted to fit in at Augustana, Batman became one with the darkness in order to uphold justice. And may I note that “Adil” is Arabic for “one who is just”? Ultimately, there was something inexplicable about wearing all black whilst the night sky blanketed my appearance that made me feel better about being so alone.

So as I opened my gigantic steel armoire (actually, a surplus storage unit refitted to be used as an armoire), the doors screeching as if a woman was being mauled every time the door moved, I cautiously removed my Batman costume, hidden underneath the tote I’d set up to hold my socks and underwear. It’s showtime.
